Where digital collections are often presenting primary source materials online as individual objects, digital humanities projects are taking those materials and presenting them in interpretive formats – web exhibits, data analysis, crowd sourcing, digital modeling, etc.

As Kathleen Fitzpatrick notes, the digital humanities are “a nexus of fields within which scholars use computing technologies to investigate the kinds of questions that are traditional to the humanities, or, as is more true of my own work, ask traditional kinds of humanities-oriented questions about computing technologies.” The definition continues to fluctuate and is frequently debated, but this list is an attempt to document the many incredible projects that have an eye specifically toward the performing arts.
